Madrid defender in Reds sights

Clubcall Sports

Reports in Spain are claiming that Liverpool are interested in signing Real Madrid defender Francisco Pavon.

Marca are reporting that two Premiership sides have enquired about the player - who is out of contract at the end of the season.

The Reds are rumoured to be one of the English clubs, and could make a move for the central defender when the transfer window opens in the New Year.

Reds tracking Italian striker

Clubcall Sports

Liverpool are believed to be interested in Triestina striker
Andrea Russotto.

Gazzetta dello Sport has claimed that the Reds are pondering a January transfer move for the former Lazio man.

The 19-year-old forward has impressed this season in Serie B.

Liverpool may enter Wright-Phillips chase

Fans FC

Amidst confirmed interest from West Ham United in the England international, Chelsea have admitted that they are willing to listen to offers for the winger when the transfer window reopens in
the New Year.

It is believed that the Hammers are willing to pay £10million for the former Manchester City ace, yet it is now being reported that Liverpool are also keeping close tabs on the situation.

Manager Rafael Benitez is a keen admirer of Wright-Phillips, and should he get the backing of his board, he too could match the valuation being set by the champions.

NOVEMBER 27
Tottenham in Liverpool swap deal

Talking Soccer

It's being reported that Tottenham could be tempted by a swap deal which would see Liverpool player Craig Bellamy move to the London side and Jermaine Defoe go the other way.

Bellamy hasn't quite managed to be a hit at Liverpool since his big arrival in the summer. The fans anticipated so much from the pacy striker but they got so little in return.

Defoe is known to be a bit unsettled at Tottenham as boss Martin Jol fails to hand him a regular place in the first team, despite proving he is a goal scorer.

It's believed that Tottenham would be open to the deal and it seems a good one for both parties.

NOVEMBER 27
Neill deal still on despite rival bids

By Ian Doyle - Daily Post

Liverpool remain favourites to sign Blackburn Rovers defender Lucas Neill despite Newcastle United's attempts to hijack
the transfer.

The Australian right-back is out of contract at the end of the season but is almost certain to depart during the January transfer window with Blackburn seeking a fee for the player.

Liverpool failed to agree a deal for the 28-year-old in August but, with Rafael Benitez short of full-back reinforcements, will return with an improved offer in the New Year.

They will face a challenge Newcastle, who are ready to offer Neill a more attractive salary as Magpies manager Glenn Roeder looks to bolster his leaky defence.

However, Liverpool are confident the lure of realistically challenging for silverware will persuade Neill to switch to Anfield.

Barcelona and AC Milan have previously been touted as interested parties by Neill's agent.

NOVEMBER 17
Juventus eye shock Reds move

Clubcall Sports

Juventus have reportedly made Liverpool midfielder Mohamed Sissoko their number one transfer target for next season.

The Corriere dello Sport claims that new Juve coach Didier Deschamps plans to build his team around the young Mail international, with further additions of Javier Mascherano from West Ham and Rio Mavuba from Bordeaux.

Sissoko, who has recently been ruled out for around three months with a shoulder injury, is one of Rafael Benitez's key players and would not be for sale.

The 21-year-old has greatly impressed since arriving at Anfield from Valencia, and is rated extremely highly by Benitez.

Reds prepare for Upson swoop

By Hyder Jawad - Birmingham Post

Matthew Upson is the subject of strong interest from Liverpool and could move to Anfield from Birmingham City when the transfer window opens in January.

England international Upson has not played for Birmingham's first team since February because of an Achilles injury but Liverpool have been keeping an eye on his rehabilitation.

He returned to action for the reserve team on Wednesday night and Birmingham, bidding to reclaim their lost horizon, have dropped enough hints to suggest that they will sell the player if a club comes in offering a fee in the region of £4 million.

Liverpool have suffered defensively this season — they have lost five matches already — and need a left-sided centre back in a bid to make up ground in the race to finish in the top four.

It seems likely that Upson will be signed to challenge Sami Hyypiä, whose best days are probably behind him.

If Upson moves to Liverpool, he will re-join Jermaine Pennant, who left St Andrew's for Anfield in the summer. Both were also team-mates at Arsenal.

NOVEMBER 14
Valencia keen on Reina raid

TEAMtalk

Under-fire Liverpool goalkeeper Jose Reina is a reported target for La Liga outfit Valencia, according to reports in Spain.

The former Villrreal stopper is reportedly homesick and looking for a move back to the Primera Liga.

Reina, who moved to Anfield in the summer of 2005, has come under a lot of criticism this season for his errors, particularly in the 3-0 Merseyside derby defeat to Everton.

First-choice Valencia keeper Santiago Canizares is refusing to sign a new contract, forcing the club to look elsewhere.

Their back-up keeper Ludovic Butelle has been linked with a move to Liverpool already this season, so there may well be some scope for a swap deal.

NOVEMBER 9
Rovers to revive Reds switch

Clubcall Sports

Blackburn have been linked with a January move for Liverpool's Stephen Warnock after Mark Hughes admitted he may need to dip into the transfer market in January.

Rovers are keen to strengthen the left-side and tried to take Warnock in the summer when Liverpool tried to sign Lucas Neill.

Hughes remains keen to keep Neill despite the Australian indicating he intends to leave under the Bosman ruling next summer, but should Liverpool revive their interest, Warnock will again be a Rovers target.

Indeed Rovers could look to move for the left-back whether or not Neill departs as the left side is a position that Hughes knows he is short of cover in.

However the Rovers boss admitted earlier this week that any transfer window arrivals will depend on the quality available as he is hopeful Ryan Nelsen, Jason Roberts and Steven Reid will be back early in the new year.

NOVEMBER 8
Reds linked with keeper

By Peter ORourke - Sky Sports

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is being linked with a raid on old club Valencia for goalkeeper Ludovic Butelle.

Reports emanating from France claim Liverpool are pondering a move for the former Metz ace.

Benitez is a big admirer of the Frenchman having signed him while he was in charge at Valencia before moving onto Liverpool.

Butelle has struggled to establish himself at Valencia with Santiago Canizares the number one goalkeeper at La Mestalla.

Liverpool could be in the market for a new goalkeeper with Chris Kirkland having sealed his permanent move to Wigan last month.

There are also doubts over the long-term futures of Scott Carson and Jerzy Dudek at Anfield.

Carson is currently on loan at Charlton, while Dudek is thought to be frustrated with his lack of first team opportunities.

Benitez might turn to Butelle to bolster his goalkeeping options if he decides to let Dudek or Carson leave.

NOVEMBER 2
Clarets eye Liverpool ace?

Clubcall Sports

Burnley are being linked with a loan move for Liverpool midfielder David Mannix.

The highly-rated 20-year-old has been made available for loan by the Reds.

Burnley manager Steve Cotterill revealed this week that he was desperate to add to his small squad and could now move for Mannix, who is being tracked by a number of Championship sides.

The Liverpool youngster, tipped for a bright future at Anfield, is now fully recovered from a broken ankle which sidelined him for four months at the end of the last campaign.
