Pars opportunity for ex-Red Foy
Dunfermline Athletic have taken ex-Liverpool and Scotland
Under-21 player Robbie Foy on trial.
Pars manager Jim Leishman has handed the winger, 20, a
three-week stint at East End Park with a view to signing.
Foy said: "I've got a chance to do something in the SPL - I
want to do well and play against the likes of Celtic and
Rangers this season.
"Being at Liverpool was a major part of my life but the
biggest thing for me is coming home to this great
opportunity."

Big Sam sorry to miss out on Hamann
Sam Allardyce is gutted to have missed out on signing
Dietmar Hamann from Liverpool.
The German midfielder was linked with a move to Bolton
before it became apparent that a switch to Manchester City
was on the cards.
"It's a big disappointment because this is the second time
we've failed to get Hamann," said the Trotters boss. "I
don't know why he's changed hisa mind - I haven't had an
explanation.
"I would have liked Hamann because he could have done a job
for us, but we haven't got him so we move on."
It is believed that Hamann's wife wasn't keen on the move to
Bolton, preferring city life in Manchester instead.

prospect of playing his football in England.
The 20-year-old Argentine centre-back completed his move to
Anfield this week, signing a four-year deal having signed
from Banfield.
"I think I'm ready for the move to England," Paletta told
the Sunday Mirror.
"It's every South American player's dream to play in Europe.
It's impossible to turn down the opportunity when it

Koeman uncertain on Kuyt future
Feyenoord coach Erwin Koeman admits there is little more he
can do in his bid to keep Holland striker Dirk Kuyt at the
club.
Kuyt, 25, has been linked with a move to several
high-profile European sides, including Premiership duo
Newcastle and Liverpool, after plundering 71 goals in his
last three Eredivisie seasons at Feyenoord.
And while Koeman would prefer to keep the highly-rated
hitman at the Rotterdam outfit, the coach is well aware the
final decision on Kuyt's immediate future will be made by
the player himself.
"At the moment nothing is concrete (about Kuyt's future),"
Koeman told De Telegraaf.
"Of course it can change tomorrow though. In football these
days the players are the boss. They decide when to go away."

Reds' £12m Alves move in doubt
Liverpool's bid to sign full-back Daniel Alves has stalled,
with Sevilla determined to keep hold of the highly-rated
Brazilian.
The Reds have formally tabled two bids for the 23-year-old
but have yet to meet the asking price of around £12million.
And despite accepting the player is keen on a move to the
Premiership, Sevilla president Jose Maria Del Nido has
inisted he does not want him to leave the Spanish side.
"Sevilla doesn't want Alves to leave the club," insisted Del
Nido.
"It is the player's desire to leave and the tempting deal
they (Liverpool) have offered him has been the reason why we
have had to sit down and negotiate.
"We have been 15% away from reaching an agreement in terms
of what we wanted and what they were offering.
"Since Monday, negotiations have halted and this makes me
happy."

Liverpool FC issue Kewell statement
Liverpool Football Club have today issued the
following press statement in relation to Harry Kewell:
"The Club has noted the considerable press speculation
regarding the foot problem suffered by Harry Kewell while
playing for Australia in this summer's World Cup Finals.
"It is unfortunate that another Australian player spoke
publicly to the media about his condition rather than an
official spokesperson for the National team. His team-mate
suggested that Harry had been suffering from gout which we
can confirm was an incorrect diagnosis.
"Following Harry's return to Liverpool and examination by
our own medical staff it became apparent he was suffering
from an entirely different condition. This was identified as
a Septic Arthritis – a bacterial infection in the joints of
his left foot.
"Harry is currently undergoing treatment in hospital
following a surgical procedure. He is expected to make a
complete recovery and should be able to resume training in
approximately six weeks time."

Depor clinch Barragan deal
Deportivo La Coruna have completed the signing of Antonio
Barragan from Liverpool.
The defender has penned a five-year contract with Depor,
although Liverpool will have the option to buy him back in
2008.
The transfer fee is believed to be in the region of €2.5
million (£1.7 million).
The 19-year-old Spaniard was also a target for Real Betis
but plumped for the Estadio Riazor largely because of coach
Joaquin Caparros, who he worked with at Sevilla a couple of
years ago.
Depor president Augusto Cesar Lendoiro was thrilled to snap
up such a promising young player.
"This is a great signing for the future of Depor," he
commented.

Aurelio can be a pass master
Liverpool have snapped up a Brazilian free-kick specialist
who can pass the ball even better than Xabi Alonso!
The glowing tribute to new left-back Fabio Aurelio came
today from boss Rafa Benitez, who has introduced his latest
capture at Melwood this week.
Benitez, who had Aurelio in his two La Liga winning sides of
2002 and 2004, was thrilled to be reunited with the player.
"Aurelio is a left full back or a left winger with a lot of
quality," he declared.
"He can cross the ball superbly and he is maybe a better
passer of the ball than
Xabi Alonso."

Shankly's quote voted best of all time
Bill Shankly felt soccer was more important than life and
death, and fans around the world agreed with the former

Scotsman Shankly, who died of a heart attack in 1981, beat
former Manchester United and France forward Eric Cantona in
a poll organised by the Plain English Campaign to pick
soccer's most memorable quote.
Shankly struck a chord when he said: "Some people believe
football is a matter of life and death. I'm very
disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is
much, much more important than that."

Deportivo transfer bid accepted
Liverpool and Deportivo have reached a "verbal agreement" in
relation to the proposed transfer of Antonio Barragan.

Anfield and according to the player's agent, the deal will
involve cash coming our way with us also having a right to
buy back the player later in the future.
