Agger targets best form
Liverpool defender Daniel Agger is looking to return to his best form after admitting that last season was not 'optimal'.
The 24-year-old Danish defender made 25 appearances for the Reds in all competitions - a vast improvement on the season before when he featured just six times after suffering metatarsal injuries.
But he wants to get back to his best level after recently ending speculation over his future by signing a new five-year deal at Anfield.
The Dane told Jyllands-Posten: "I don't think that the season
has been optimal.
"Of course, if you run into stupid injuries you will find it hard to get to the level that you need.
"But it is not satisfactory, when the breaks keep on coming and you don't reach the level you should.
"No this season has hardly been optimal from my point of view."

McMahon set for Reds switch
John McMahon has revealed that he will be leaving Shrewsbury Town to become the new manager of Liverpool Reserves.
Liverpool-born McMahon has enjoyed four years as assistant manager at The New Meadow but admitted that the overtures from Anfield were too strong to turn down.
"If any Premier League club comes knocking at your door it is something that you have to consider and with it being Liverpool it was a job that I couldn't refuse," he said.
"To work with a manager of the quality of Rafa Benitez and an assistant manager like Sammy Lee is brilliant and it's a place where I can continue to learn and develop as a coach and hopefully give them something back.
"Ultimately I would have liked to have left the club with them being promoted but it wasn't the case.
"I've really enjoyed my time with Shrewsbury and the chairman, manager, the staff, players and spectators have been fantastic to me."
McMahon replaces Gary Ablett as reserve team coach and becomes the third new face to join Rafael Benitez's new coaching dynasty alongside Academy director Frank McParland and youth technical manager Jose Segura.
He is the brother of ex-Reds midfielder Steve McMahon who was influential in the club's 1986 double-winning side.

Terry wants Carra back
John Terry wants Jamie Carragher back in the England squad.
Terry wants Carragher to reconsider his decision to retire from international football.
"Going into the World Cup, it'd be great if he did come back - even if it makes the competition for places even more difficult!"
said the England captain.
"We all understood his frustration, but we'd all like him to come out of retirement, but it's down to him to make that decision. Only he can
do that.
"But there's still Matty Upson, who everyone's speaking highly of and he's had a very good year, Joleon Lescott's done very well again and Gary Cahill has come into the squad.
"I spoke to Carra at the time, but it's his decision."

George Gillett & Tom Hicks:
We owe less than rival clubs

Liverpool FC today vowed it was not going bust despite losses of nearly £41m in 2008.
Latest accounts for Kop Football (Holdings) Ltd showed debt rising by £77m to £359, as revealed exclusively yesterday on the ECHO’s website.
Auditors also cast doubt on the Anfield club’s future as a "going concern."
But owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett today dismissed that analysis as merely "accountancy-speak."

Dossena sets sights on Juve move
Andrea Dossena has admitted his struggle adapting to English football and revealed his desire to leave Liverpool for Juventus this summer.
The Italian left-back has only had one season at Anfield but has struggled to adapt to the pace of the Premier League and fallen behind Fabio Aurelio and Emiliano Insua in the battle for a first-team spot.
"I have talked to [Rafael] Benitez. He is a wonderful person and has understood my problem," Dossena told Tuttosport.
"He told me that if they receive an offer that satisfies both the club and me, he will facilitate my transfer. I would run to Juve. They showed interest in me last year, but then Liverpool stepped in and wrapped things up in less than an hour.
"In England they play continuously and the hardest training session does not last more than 40 minutes, but I need to train longer.
"Now I truly hope to join Juve and start a new life."

How Liverpool FC owners' saddled club
with £359m debt and £41m annual loss

The full scale of the debt Liverpool FC’s American owners have saddled the club with can today be revealed.
Despite increasing turnover and a 60% rise in TV income, Kop Football Holdings – a company through which Tom Hicks and George Gillett own LFC – made a £41m loss before tax.
Liverpool’s parent company suffered mainly due to interest payments on the debts the Americans took on to buy the club.
Most worryingly, in the annual accounts submitted today, LFC’s accountants have also warned that remaining uncertainty over refinancing the £359m debt before the July 24 deadline may even “cast significant doubt on the group’s and parent company’s ability to continue as a going concern”.

Fowler wants Rafa’s job!

Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has revealed his dream of one day becoming manager of Liverpool after his playing days are over.
Fowler is now playing his football at Australian side North Queensland Fury after two stints at Liverpool between 1993-2001 and 2006-2007.
The 34-year-old, who scored 128 goals in 256 games for the Reds, admitted he’s already started thinking about going into management.
He said, “Anyone who says they don’t want to manage Liverpool is lying - it’s a massive club.
“Personally, I always said I’d pack in young and take a break, but the older I’ve become, the more I’ve looked into coaching or managing.
“I probably will go down that route. It’s a tall order, and I’m not going to say I’ll go on to manage Liverpool, but you know.”

Tuncay hints at Reds interest
Middlesbrough striker Tuncay Sanli has expressed interest in securing a move to Liverpool.
The Turkey international forward seems certain to head for pastures new following Boro’s relegation to The Championship.
Turkish giants Fenerbahce are believed to be keen on bringing Tuncay back home, but he is thought to favour extending his stay in England.
The 27-year-old is unlikely to be short of suitors and reports suggest he is on Rafa Benitez’s radar.
"Yes, I've heard something about that but nothing official has arrived to me," he said.
"Of course I would like to play for a big club."

Reds move for Distin
Liverpool are set to launch a £2million bid to sign Portsmouth defender Sylvain Distin.
Reds boss Rafa Benitez is in the market for a new centre-back following the departure of Sami Hyypia to Bayer Leverkusen and believes the 31-year-old Frenchman fits the bill.
Distin only has one year left on his contract at Fratton Park and recently admitted his future was uncertain.
“Right now I expect to be here next season but I’m not in touch with anyone and tomorrow things can change,” he said.
