Reds linked to VfB star
Fernando Meira’s agent claims that his client can leave Stuttgart for
the right price, while Liverpool are believed to be huge admirers of
the centre back.
The Portugal international has been one of the best players in Die Bundesliga in the last few seasons, and a move from the German league after seven years could be in the air.

Reds prepare final Barry bid
Liverpool reportedly want to offer Steve Finnan to Aston Villa in a final bid to land Gareth Barry for less than the £18million asking price.
Barry's proposed move to Anfield has been one of the summer's longest transfer sagas but Martin O'Neill has accepted his skipper will leave, and has urged his counterpart Rafa Benitez to stump up the cash and get
the deal done.
Liverpool do not want to pay much above £15million, though, and will now offer Finnan to Villa in order to save money for their other summer targets.

Poyet: We can't afford to lose Keane
Tottenham assistant manager Gus Poyet has admitted that the club 'can't afford' to lose Robbie Keane who is a transfer target for Liverpool.
The striker has been linked with a move to Anfield, with reports claiming Rafa Benitez wants to pair the Irishman with Fernando Torres.
Having sold Jermain Defoe to Portsmouth in January, Poyet is aware
the club can not risk depleting their attacking options any further.
And Poyet admits it is vital that Keane is at White Hart Lane next season to continue his profitable partnership with Dimitar Berbatov.
"I was shocked when I heard him being linked with Liverpool - he's a very important player for us," Poyet told the Daily Star Sunday.
"We can't afford to let Robbie go.
"We have lost Jermain Defoe and, hopefully, Dimitar Berbatov will stay.
"If we lost Robbie it would be too much."

Juve tight-lipped on Alonso
Juventus are refusing to confirm they are still chasing Liverpool's Spain international midfielder Xabi Alonso.
The Serie A giants are looking to bolster their midfield options this summer but have stated they will not rush a decision on who to sign.
Although the Old Lady have a healthy budget to spend this close-season to reinforce Claudio Ranieri's squad, they have yet to agree a fee
for Alonso.
"We have never named names. It's an important decision and we'll consider it at length because the final choice must be within our budget," Juve's chief officer Jean Claude Blanc told the Italian media.
"We spend the right time evaluating players. It will be an investment of between 10 and 30million euros (£8million - £23.7million).
"We will talk things over at length with Claudio Ranieri and his staff."
Although Alonso is being hotly tipped to move to the Stadio Delle Alpi this summer, Ranieri has more than one name on his midfielder wanted list.
"There are more than two names we are considering to strengthen our midfield," explained the former Chelsea tactician.

Carragher: Reds must stay in hunt
Jamie Carragher will only consider Liverpool title challengers next season if they are still in the hunt with 15 games remaining.
It is almost two decades since the Reds were champions of England and defender Carragher has been involved for more than half of that period.
In recent years, Liverpool have been among the favourites to lift
the Premier League crown when the season kicks off but their challenge has invariably faltered.
"People always talk about us pushing for the league, but to be honest it isn't very often that we've even challenged," Carragher told the club's official website. "If we were challenging with 10 or 15 games to go then who knows?
"But just a challenge this season would be nice, to still be in the hunt.
"I think it's only happened once since I've been in the team, when I played a few games under Roy Evans (in 1996-97).
"We probably should have won the league but let it slip towards the end.
"But since then, we've never even challenged, so that's something we're all looking for."

Kewell excited by Galatasaray move
Australia international Harry Kewell revealed he is looking forward to
the challenge of playing his club football in Turkey ahead of his expected move to Galatasaray on Saturday.
The 29-year-old striker arrived in Istanbul late on Friday evening where he is set to put pen to paper on a three-year deal with the Turkish champions.
Kewell turned down a contract offer with Liverpool in May and entered
the current transfer window as a free agent, with many clubs across Europe chasing his services.
He was reported to be heading to Celtic, Italy's Roma or Portsmouth, but Galatasaray swooped first.
"I'm ecstatic, I'm thrilled to bits and looking forward to the new challenge," Kewell said www.galatasaray.org. "I can't wait to join the team and
get going.
"There's a lot of talk about the Turkish league, it's coming up in the world.
"The national team has done well in the last couple of international tournaments and there's a lot of young talent here.
"It's different and that's what I'm looking forward to - the new challenge."

FRIDAY 4
Agent: Cavalieri close to Reds move
Palmeiras goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri is set to wrap up a £3million move to Liverpool this weekend, according to the player's agent.
The 26-year-old's representative Juninho Parmigiani claims the stopper will travel to the North-West this weekend to finalise the deal.
He told gazetaesportiva.net: "Palmeiras' board released Diego to negotiate with Liverpool and we are going to fly in to finalise the last details.
"We still cannot say that everything is closed because there are some things between Liverpool and Palmeiras and other details in the contract.
"I believe everything is going to be resolved this weekend.
"If everything goes as it was agreed, he is going to sign the contract."

Dossena signs four-year deal
Andrea Dossena has today put pen to paper on a four-year Anfield deal.
The Italian full-back becomes Rafael Benitez's second acquisition of
the summer following the arrival of Swiss international Philipp Degen.
Dossena, who has been capped once at senior level by Italy, is seen as the ideal replacement for John Arne Riise, who departed for Roma earlier this month.
The 26-year-old began his career aged 14 with Hellas Verona in northern Italy, coming through the ranks before spending four seasons in
the senior squad.
His big break came when he signed for Udinese in 2005, though he was immediately loaned to Treviso FBC 1993 for a year.
The defender returned to the Stadio Friuli ahead of the 2006-07 campaign, where his form eventually saw him make his international bow in a friendly against South Africa in October 2007.
By the end of the season his move to Merseyside had been confirmed, with Dossena saying: "Liverpool are a great team, and it is great to be linked to such a famous club. I want to play Champions League football, the Reds have already won it and they often get to the big games. In England, they are on the same level as Manchester United."
