Ince on target as U18s hit five again
Thomas Ince scored his first goal for Liverpool Under-18s as
Hughie McAuley's side beat Plymouth Argyle 5-2.
Ince, son of former Reds skipper Paul, played on the right
wing and enjoyed a 45 minute run-out as the young Reds
played some
superb football.
Summer recruit, German striker Christopher Buchtmann came
off the bench to make his debut in the second half and hit
the final goal to mark an impressive first appearance.
The Academy side scored five goals for the second weekend in
succession and McAuley certainly has a lot of firepower in
his squad
this season.
Finnish teenager Lauri Dalla Valle opened the scoring and
Ince and Adam Pepper were also on the mark as McAuley's men
led 3-0 at half-time.
Argyle came into the game more in the second half and pulled
two goals back but German pair Marvin Pourie and Buchtmann
completed the scoring in the second half.
Liverpool team: Deale Chamberlain, Michael Scott, Shane
O'Connor (Alex Cooper 45), Andre Wisdom (U16), Trailist, Joe
Kennedy, Michael Roberts, Pajtim Kasami, Thomas Ince
(Christopher Buchtmann 45), Adam Pepper, Lauri Dalla Valle
(Pourie 45).

Ablett pleased after County draw
Gary Ablett praised the character of his side after a
Liverpool XI bounced back from last weekend's heavy defeat
at Peterborough to draw 1-1 with Stockport County on
Saturday.
Gerardo Bruna scored a superb goal to give Ablett's side the
lead in the first half but the League One outfit levelled
things up in the second half.
"We competed really well and looked quite dangerous on the
break,"
Ablett told Liverpoolfc.tv.
The Reserves are next in action on Wednesday night when they
take on Manchester United in the final of the Lancashire
County FA Canterbury Senior Cup. The match takes place at
the Lancashire County FA ground
in Leyland and kicks-off at 7.45pm BST.

Carra happy with Agger return
Jamie Carragher feels Liverpool will be a stronger side for
the return to fitness of Daniel Agger.
Danish stopper Agger had a horror season which was decimated
by foot injuries.
Agger was sorely missed by Liverpool but he is winning his
battle for fitness and should be pushing for a place in the
side at the start of
the new season.
Carragher is likely to have to shift to right back as a
consequence of Agger’s return, but he feels Liverpool will
be a stronger side because of it.
“It's been really tough for Daniel,” Carragher told the
club’s official website. “He was a big miss for us last
season and we're delighted to have
him back.
"He's a great player but there are a lot of good players in
a lot of different positions now fighting for a place.
"We've got a big squad but we need to keep everyone fit."

Yeats: Skrtel's got it all
Ron Yeats has hailed the impact of Martin Skrtel after the
Slovakian overcame a difficult start to life at Anfield to
enjoy a promising first season with the club.
The Reds legend - who Bill Shankly famously called his
'Colossus' - admits he had reservations about Skrtel
following the defender's debut against Havant &
Waterlooville in the FA Cup; but he is now a keen admirer of
the 23-year-old and feels he can go on to have a big future
on Merseyside.
"I go to all the home games and after watching his debut I
wasn't very impressed," Yeats told LFC TV.
"When I say I wasn't impressed I mean, I thought he was a
bag of nerves. But I thought he must have something about
him.
"In the games that followed he showed that he was very good
player. He's got a bit of pace and boy can he tackle and
head the ball.
"That's what you want from a centre back. I think he's only
23 and with him Agger, Carragher and the boy Hobbs, we are
well endowed with
centre backs."

Lucas sets Reds target
Lucas Leiva hopes to play a prominent role in the
forthcoming campaign, as the Brazilian dreams of delivering
Liverpool the title.
The 21-year-old Brazilian will miss the first few weeks of
the season due to Olympic national team duty but hopes to
stake a regular starting spot after returning from China.
While accepting Rafa Benitez has a wealth of midfield talent
at his disposal, Lucas is determined to establish himself in
the Spaniard's starting XI.
"Of course it's going to be difficult but I will be trying
my best (to get regular starts)," said Lucas, who started
only 12 league matches for
the Reds last season.
"We had a good second half of the season but we didn't win
the title. Hopefully this year we can win the title and this
is our challenge now.
"I think that winning the league is most important because
it's been
an 18 year wait since we last won it.
"The focus is to win something but the most important thing
now is the Premier League."

Reds youngster on the move
Liverpool defender Jack Hobbs will spend the coming season
in League One after joining Leicester City on loan.
The 19-year-old has agreed the move to Nigel Pearson’s side
as he seeks to gain more first team experience following a
loan spell with Scunthorpe last season in which he made nine
appearances.
Liverpool boast Sami Hyypia, Jamie Carragher, Martin Skrtel
and Daniel Agger in central defence and Hobbs has only made
five appearances for The Reds since joining from Lincoln
City in 2005.
"I am really pleased to have signed and can't wait to get
started," Hobbs told Liverpool’s official website.
"Liverpool have some world-class centre backs so I spoke to
the boss and he said I was free to go out on loan and gain
some experience.
"Leicester showed their interest and I had no hesitation in
coming here. This is a massive club with a good manager and
top class
Premier League facilities.
"I want to help this club get back to The Championship at
the first time
of asking."

Carson encourages Barry to move
West Brom goalkeeper Scott Carson feels Villa skipper Gareth
Barry would be best served moving to Liverpool.
Carson has played for both clubs involved in the Barry
transfer saga and believes the time is right for the England
midfielder to leave Villa Park.
"I think if he wants to leave he should really," Carson told
BBC WM.
"However, people have got their price and if Liverpool
cannot match
the price then they have got to come to some sort of
agreement."
Carson had been linked with a permanent move from Anfield to
Villa this summer after spending last season on loan with
Martin O'Neill's club.
The Villa manager now appears to be opting for Blackburn
veteran
Brad Friedel.
"They never said that they definitely didn't want me, they
said they were going to go for an experienced one and maybe
they still will," said Carson, who joined the Baggies in a
£3.25m deal from Liverpool earlier this month.
"Obviously, I couldn't go somewhere to be second choice - I
would have been better off staying at Liverpool - but I
think the time was right to leave and get settled."

Liverpool FC edge closer to Keane
Robbie Keane edged nearer a move to Liverpool after he was
left out of
a Tottenham Hotspur match last night.
The Republic of Ireland striker was not involved as Spurs
took on
Spanish side Hercules.
Keane – who is not thought to have been carrying any injury
– was not even named on the substitutes’ bench by manager
Juande Ramos.
Reds manager Rafael Benitez has earmarked the £20m-rated
Keane
to replace the recently departed Peter Crouch.

Alonso set for talks on Anfield future
as Arbeloa edges to exit door

clarify his future
at Liverpool – as Alvaro Arbeloa edged towards the exit
door.
Alonso and Arbeloa return to training at Melwood today along
with fellow Euro 2008 winners Fernando Torres and Pepe
Reina.
And Alonso is expected to waste no time in asking Benitez
whether he remains part of the manager’s long-term plans.

however, is Arbeloa, who is understood to want a return to
his homeland for personal reasons.

Godwin Antwi has taken a short trip across the Mersey to
join League One side Tranmere Rovers on loan until January
2009.
The Ghana born reserve team defender, who joined Liverpool
from Real Zaragoza in 2005, spent a season long loan at

be at Tranmere. It is a good club and it will be a great
experience for me.
"I'm looking forward to meeting my new teammates and some
hard training ahead of the season."
Tranmere manager Ronnie Moore said: "I'd like to thank Rafa
Benitez and Liverpool Football Club for allowing him to come
here. It is great that
the two clubs are able to work together to help the career
of
a young player.
"Godwin is a very talented young defender who we've been
watching for some time. When I heard he had become available
on loan I jumped at
the chance of bringing him in to play right back."

Hammill hopes for Anfield boost
Adam Hammill will make his debut for Blackpool tonight and
hopes
the loan spell with the club will kick start his Liverpool
career.
Hammill has admitted that his future lies with his parent
club Liverpool but hopes that he can catch the eye of Reds
manager Rafael Benitez while with Blackpool, starting
tonight against Shrewsbury.
Hammill signed a new three-year contract with Liverpool the
day before he joined Blackpool and hopes that if thinks work
out well for him at Bloomfield Road that it will ignite his
Premier League career.
"Hopefully the fact that I signed a new deal with Liverpool
the day before sorting the Blackpool loan means things look
good for me at Anfield,"
said Hammill.
"The manager has told me my future does lie at Liverpool,
depending on how well I do here.
