Rafa frustration at draw
Rafa Benitez could barely believe his side did not come away from Middlesbrough with a victory.
Benitez though insists he was not unhappy as they would win '99 games out of 100' playing as they do.
"We created a lot of chances. We deserved to win, we had a clean sheet and we were going forward all the time," he told PremPlus.

Stubborn Boro hold Reds
Liverpool failed to break down a stubborn Middlesbrough defence as they were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw at The Riverside in Saturday's late Premiership kick-off.
The Reds dominated the play, but there was little cutting edge to their play and they could not find a way through a defence excellently marshalled by Jonathan Woodgate.
Indeed a toothless Boro could have won it in the second half through Yakubu Aiyegbeni - but he missed a great chance, while Mark Schwarzer was on hand to prevent Mark Gonzalez, Jermaine Pennant and Dan Agger from breaking the deadlock and seal a share of the spoils for the home side.

Three changes for Reds at Boro
Rafael Benitez has made three changes to his starting eleven for the Premiership clash with Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium.
Into the side come Craig Bellamy, Daniel Agger and Jermaine Pennant for Peter Crouch, Sami Hyypia and Bolo Zenden respectively.
Liverpool team in full: Reina, Finnan, Agger, Carragher, Riise, Gerrard, Gonzalez, Alonso, Pennant, Bellamy, Kuyt. Subs: Dudek, Crouch, Hyypia, Zenden, Paletta
Middlesbrough: Schwarzer, Arca, Davis, Woodgate, Pogatetz, Boateng, Euell, Taylor, Morrison, Rochembak, Yakubu. Subs: Jones, Huth, Cattermole, Mendieta, Maccarone.

Liverpool seeking top spot
With qualification for the last 16 of the Champions League already assured, Liverpool will be fighting to win group C when PSV Eindhoven visit Anfield on Wednesday.
A victory, in theory, would give Liverpool a slightly easier draw in the last 16 against a runner-up from another group.
But that is fraught with problems, too, because clubs currently in second place include Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Roma and Celtic, with Barcelona also a possible candidate.
And Liverpool can hardly forget what happened last season when they won their group and then lost both legs of their last-16 tie with Benfica, runners up from group D.
However, manager Rafael Benitez will no doubt be looking at the one section of Liverpool's season that has been a success for encouragement.
Qualification for the knockout phase has been achieved with two games to spare, Liverpool's best ever performance at this stage, despite disappointing results in
the Barclays Premiership.

FRIDAY 17
Rafa: I decide where Stevie plays
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has made it abundantly clear that he makes the decisions over where Steven Gerrard plays for his club.
The Spaniard has been stung by more criticism this week following Gerrard's display in the centre of England's midfield in Wednesday's 1-1 draw with Holland.
And, ahead of Saturday's Premiership trip to Middlesbrough, Benitez insisted he calls the shots after Gerrard was reported as saying that he had spoken to the Anfield manager about his unhappiness playing on the right.
Benitez said: "He did not speak to me about this, I spoke to him. I spoke to him before the Arsenal game because I wanted to explain that he will play more games in the centre, but against Arsenal he would play on the right side.
"And yes, it is a possibility that he will play in the centre against Middlesbrough now we have Momo Sissoko out injured for three months."

Triple worry for Southgate
Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate will make late decisions on a trio of players before naming his side to face Liverpool in the Barclays Premiership tomorrow evening.
Stewart Downing (groin), Lee Cattermole (dead leg) and Andrew Taylor (calf) were all forced to withdraw from international duty in midweek and are rated only 50-50.
Chris Riggott (ankle ligaments) and Ugo Ehiogu (Achilles) returned to action for the reserves earlier this week, but the game could come too soon.
Mark Viduka (broken toes) continues his recovery and will not play, but Julio Arca is back after a foot problem.
Provisional squad: Schwarzer, Jones, Turnbull, Xavier, Davies, Huth, Woodgate, Pogatetz, Taylor, Arca, Boateng, Downing, Cattermole, Morrison, Rochemback, Euell, Mendieta, Yakubu, Maccarone, Graham.

Juventus eye shock Reds move
Juventus have reportedly made Liverpool midfielder Mohamed Sissoko their number one transfer target for next season.
The Corriere dello Sport claims that new Juve coach Didier Deschamps plans to build his team around the young Mail international, with further additions of Javier Mascherano from West Ham and Rio Mavuba from Bordeaux.

Reds prepare for Upson swoop
Matthew Upson is the subject of strong interest from Liverpool and could move to Anfield from Birmingham City when the transfer window opens in January.
England international Upson has not played for Birmingham's first team since February because of an Achilles injury but Liverpool have been keeping an eye on his rehabilitation.
He returned to action for the reserve team on Wednesday night and Birmingham, bidding to reclaim their lost horizon, have dropped enough hints to suggest that they will sell the player if a club comes in offering a fee in the region of £4 million.

Kop legend calls for happy faces
Alan Kennedy believes the Liverpool players can cure their away day blues by enjoying themselves more.
The double European Cup winner says the Reds can take their home form on their travels by following the lead of the great teams from the '70s and '80s.
"All the teams I was part of had bad patches at one time or another, so I'd say they should just go out and play their football and enjoy it," said Kennedy.
"There's no problem at Anfield, they're absolutely great there. They need to have more belief in themselves away from home."
Kennedy reckons Liverpool still have much to play for this season despite being 14 points off top spot in the Premiership.
He said: "Win against Middlesbrough, win against City and we're right back in there. But other teams have to lose points, I would say that."

Aurelio desperate to impress
Fabio Aurelio is desperate to show Liverpool fans what he can do.
Aurelio was brought to Liverpool in the Summer by Rafael Benitez who worked with the left back at Valencia. Unfortunately for Aurelio he has suffered with injury this season and has been unable to get a regular run in the side.
"Rafa Benitez has shown a lot of faith in me by bringing me to Anfield, so it's a big challenge. But I am really up for it, which is why it's frustrating to pick up niggly injuries and then not be available for a few games," admitted the Brazilian.
"I am looking forward to improving my defensive duties. Being a Brazilian full-back, I'm keen on bombing forward, but I am aware that if I want to succeed in the Premiership it will be important to defend consistently well too."

Morientes: Too much pressure on Liverpool new boys
Valencia striker Fernando Morientes has revealed the pressure new players are under at Liverpool.
Morientes, 30, insists being reminded about Liverpool's illustrious past made him feel he had let the club down by not firing them to the league title.
The same could be said now about Rafa Benitez's entire squad as a 3-0 defeat at Arsenal has left them languishing 14 points behind leaders Manchester United.
Morientes said: "There were times when I felt like I should have been paying them to play.
"I really hope things pick up for them. The players want to repay the fans for their support.
"I had a good first year but the second was worse and the last three months were terrible.
"Liverpool has a special mystique. It's one of the greatest clubs in Europe and they should be title challengers every year."

THURSDAY 16

Gerrard: Let's win rest of games
Steven Gerrard believes England must aim to win all their remaining games in their qualifying group if they are to ensure a place at Euro 2008.
England gained a morale-boosting draw against Holland in the Amsterdam Arena on Wednesday to restore pride after their dreadful showing in Croatia last month.
But the harsh reality is England are out of the top two in their group and heading into the New Year behind Croatia and Russia - with a testing clash with Israel in Tel Aviv awaiting them in March.
Gerrard is still confident England can make sure of a place in Austria and Switzerland in just over 18 months' time but insists they can afford no more slip-ups.
The Liverpool skipper said: "Looking at the bigger picture, we are confident we can qualify but I think it is important we try to win all the rest of our games in the group.
"The lads were really disappointed about the Croatia game and a big improvement is needed for the remaining group matches. I think draws and defeats are no good for us."

Woody wary of Gerrard threat
Middlesbrough defender Jonathan Woodgate says Boro's biggest problem against Liverpool will be star midfielder Steven Gerrard.
Woodgate and his team-mates are well aware that, while the likes of Dirk Kuyt, Peter Crouch, Craig Bellamy and Robbie Fowler will be a real handful, the main threat could come from Gerrard.
Gerrard turned in a superb individual display at the Riverside Stadium last season in a goalless draw, and as the Reds look for a first away win of the season, Woodgate is expecting another big performance from the England player.
He said: "I know Craig Bellamy well and with the likes of Kuyt and Fowler, they have got some fantastic talent.
"But without doubt, the main man is Steven Gerrard and we have got to stop him."

Henry inspires Bellamy
Craig Bellamy believes Arsenal's Tierry Henry can inspire him to find a higher gear at Liverpool.
Bellamy admits he has been watching videos of the Arsenal striker in action and he believes he can draw inspiration from Henry as he looks to get more assists and goals for the Reds.
"I have usually had a high assists count during my career and I enjoy making that contribution to the team and the result of a game," said the Wales striker.
"If someone is in a better position you have to put them in and give them the chance. All the best players seem to do that. Look at Thierry Henry and how he plays.
"I shouldn't even be mentioning him because he is just a different level to most people. But his assists combined with his goalscoring, I think that is the way forward for me.
"All the best players, a lot better than me, always work for others."

Sissoko surgery labelled a success

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has confirmed midfielder Momo Sissoko's shoulder operation was a success.
The 21-year-old sustained the injury, which could keep him sidelined for three months, during the Carling Cup win at Birmingham.
Benitez told the Liverpool Echo: "The doctors said it was very successful, but now we must wait. We know we will be without Momo for some time, but maybe we'll know more in a few days exactly how long it will be."

International Reds round-up
Seven Liverpool players were in action for their respective countries last night, with only one tasting defeat.

Dirk Kuyt and Steven Gerrard took part in England's friendly against Holland, which ended 1-1.

Kuyt lasted 61 minutes, running tirelessly without getting a sniff at goal. Gerrard could, and perhaps should, have netted twice.

The Liverpool skipper found himself one-on-one with Henk Timmer in the first-half but the Dutch stopper saved with his legs. Gerrard was again denied after the break following a trademark burst through the box.

Peter Crouch and Jamie Carragher warmed the bench throughout.

Centre-back Daniel Agger played 90 minutes as the Danes drew 1-1 in a friendly against the Czech Republic, with former Red Milan Baros finding the net for the Czechs.

John Arne Riise played a full part in Norway's 1-1 draw in Serbia, while Xabi Alonso featured in the first half of Spain's defeat away to Romania.

Meanwhile, several Reds were involved in European Championship qualifiers.

Steve Finnan played a full 90 minutes as the Republic of Ireland recorded their first win of the campaign. Steve Staunton's side beat San Marino 5-0 thanks to a Robbie Keane hat-trick.

Finnish player of the year Sami Hyypia also lasted the distance in the Scandinavian side's 1-0 victory at home to Armenia. The result leaves Finland top of Group A.

Gerrard to be handed favoured central role
Steven Gerrard is likely to be thrust into a central midfield role for Liverpool as they look to end their dismal away form in the Premiership.
The Anfield captain played the full 90 minutes during England's 1-1 draw in international friendly with Holland in Amsterdam last night.
And afterwards he confirmed that manager Rafael Benitez is set to restore him to his preferred central position during Momo Sissoko's absence as Liverpool head to the Riverside Stadium to face Middlesbrough this weekend.
The debate over Gerrard's role in the side has been raging all season and after a fifth successive away defeat at Arsenal last Sunday, it appears the 26-year-old will be charged with leading from the middle as Liverpool go in search of a first league win on the road.
Gerrard said last night: "I spoke to Benitez and he said I will get a lot more time in the middle now with Sissoko's injury.
"We need to start picking up performances on the road for Liverpool, starting
on Saturday."
