Reds deny Kuyt transfer
Liverpool are "mystified" by reports claiming they are on
the brink of landing Feyenoord striker Dirk Kuyt.
Morning newspaper reports claim the Reds are on the brink of
landing the Dutch international for £10m.
But Liverpool have not renewed interest in the player since
their only bid to date - a player plus cash offer - was
rejected.
Feyenoord want a straight-cash deal for their top scorer,
but with the Reds still keen to land Seville's Daniel Alves,
they will not sanction a fee in excess of £10m.
Feyenoord set Liverpool a deadline of last Sunday to meet
their demands - a deadline the Reds allowed to pass with no
fresh approach.
Kuyt himself is desperate to resolve his future, and failed
to turn up for pre-season training yesterday - when a new
team picture was taken without him on it.
But if Liverpool is to be his eventual destination,
Feyenoord will have to lower their demands significantly.

PSV confirm Liverpool bid
PSV Eindhoven have made an official approach to Liverpool
for defender Jan Kromkamp.
The Dutch international - who was signed from Villarreal in
January 2006 in a swap deal that involved Josemi moving in
the opposite direction - is available for transfer.
PSV chairman Rob Westerhof has confirmed the approach.
He said: "We have contacted Liverpool to ask what Kromkamp's
status is.
"They made it clear his situation is pretty hazy. We don't
know if we can loan him or if we must buy him.
"Maybe we will get some clarity soon."

Kuyt flies in
Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez is on the brink of landing
£10million Dirk Kuyt after wearing down Feyenoord's
resistance with no fewer than four bids for the Holland
striker.
Anfield sources believe Benitez will finally get his man in
the next 48 hours after bombarding reluctant sellers
Feyenoord with a series of part-exchange proposals that
involved keeper Jerzy Dudek and right back Jan Kromkamp.

Parry: Stadium plans will not fail
Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry is insisting
Liverpool's new stadium plans will not collapse as Rafael
Benitez continues his search for new players.
Doubts have been expressed over the scheme to replace
Anfield with a 60,000-capacity stadium as the cost is
claimed to have spiralled to nearly £190million.
Liverpool have been in lengthy negotiations to raise the
capital from the private sector, and Parry - in a BBC Five
Live interview - said: "There is a lot of work going on and
the situation is coming to a head relatively soon.2

Reds a top seed for CL, Chelsea not
UEFA have confirmed that Liverpool, along with fellow
Premiership sides Arsenal and Manchester United will be
amongst the top seeds for next season’s Champions League
draw.
Although Liverpool and Arsenal must still qualify through
the third qualifying round of the Champions League, should
they go through they will both enter the draw to avoid the
top teams.
Chelsea miss out on being placed with the top seeds, despite
Juventus and AC Milan being thrown out of next season’s
competition due to the match fixing scandals in Italy.
The draw for the group stages of the Champions League will
take place in Monaco on August 24th.

Kuyt ready to decide his future
Feyenoord striker Dirk Kuyt is poised to finally decide his
future after being linked with a move to Liverpool.
Kuyt, 25, has asked for time off to make a final decision on
whether to quit the club, and recently revealed Liverpool
had made an approach.
Holland's £10m-rated World Cup star has also been a target
for Newcastle.
He told Dutch sports paper AD Sportwereld: "I have an
arrangement with coach Erwin Koeman that I can take some
days to think about my future."
Kuyt said recently: "The Feyenoord president has informed me
of a new approach from last year's European champions.
"I am happy at Feyenoord but would like to play in the
Premier League."

Benitez aims to bring in Alves
Rafa Benitez was today reported to be in Spain trying to
resolve the long-running bid to bring Daniel Alves to
Anfield.
The Reds boss left Wrexham within minutes of the final
whistle and reports today claim he landed in Spain. Chief
executive Rick Parry said: "We are happy with who we have
brought in but we haven't finished yet."

Barragan close to joining Depor
Deportivo Coruna are on the verge of signing 19-year-old
Spanish defender Antonio Barragan from Liverpool, according
to club president Augusto Cesar Lendoiro.
"All that remains for the move to be completed is for the
documents to be signed," Lendoiro was quoted as saying on
the Deportivo website on Monday.
Spanish media reported that the right back, who was born in
Galician region where Deportivo are based, would sign a
five-year deal with the club.
Barragan joined Liverpool from Sevilla in July 2005 after
rejecting the chance to sign a professional contract with
the Andalucians.
His only appearance for Liverpool came as a substitute in
their Champions League third round qualifier against CSKA
Sofia in Bulgaria last August.
He is part of the Spanish squad for the European Under-19
championship which gets underway in Poland later this week.

Fowler hails Bellamy arrival
Robbie Fowler believes Craig Bellamy could provide Liverpool
with the type of goal threat they have lacked since Michael
Owen's departure.
Bellamy has already spoken of his utmost admiration for
boyhood idol Fowler and now, in turn, the compliments have
been repaid.
''I thought Craig was a good player at Newcastle and at
other clubs he has been at,'' Fowler told the Daily Star.
''Now he has come to a massive club at Liverpool and only
time will tell how well he does.
''The manager knows exactly what he wants and any player
that he brings in will obviously benefit the squad.
The pair played together for the first time at the weekend
in a pre-season friendly at Wrexham, with Fowler optimistic
that the early signs are promising for what is a fledgling
partnership.
''But from first impressions he is a very, very good player
in training and today he scored a very, very good goal,'' he
added.
''It's the first time we've ever played. We've done all
right in training but that's as far as it goes and it's
different in games.
''It was just nice that it paid off.''

Parry: More transfers to come
Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry says the club are still
working on adding new signings to Rafa's squad.
The Liverpool manager has made a quick dash to Spain to try
and conclude the Daniel Alves deal but apart from that
possible transfer, others are still expected.
Parry said: "We are happy with who we have brought in but we
haven't finished yet."

Rafa happy with Wrexham win
Rafael Benitez was pleased with his team's performance in
their first pre-season game of the new campaign.
Liverpool comfortably beat Wrexham 2-0 on Saturday with Paul
Anderson and Craig Bellamy scoring the goals. Gabriel
Paletta also had an impressive debut.
"It was good for [Bellamy] to get a goal. He likes to play
and he likes to score goals and we hope to see a lot of
goals from him. He linked up well with Robbie and they
worked well together," said Benitez.

Hyypia will rise to biggest challenge
Sami Hyypia has spoken of the dual challenge awaiting him in
the coming Premiership season - from his new team-mates and
from the opposition.
The Finn is well aware that the arrival of the likes of
Gabriel Paletta represents another possible threat to his
position in the Liverpool line-up but is looking forward to
the battle ahead.
Hyypia is happy to grant manager Rafael Benitez his wish of
using the 32-year-old to help the new influx of defenders
settle into life at Anfield, but he's determined that this
doesn't mean giving up his place in the team without a
fight.
After a second half run-out at the Racecourse in Liverpool's
2-0 friendly win over Wrexham on Saturday, Hyypia said:
"When Daniel Agger came here, and now Paletta, it makes the
team stronger and I'll do everything I can to help the team
to win.
"If that means my experience helping the other players
actually get a place then so be it. But of course I want to
play and I'm not finished yet. I feel fit and there's no
reason why I shouldn't play."

Thommo wanted
Former Liverpool midfielder David Thompson is wanted by West
Brom boss Bryan Robson.
The 28-year-old is available on a free transfer from Wigan

is going to speak to them but he's got other offers so we'll
see."

Striker turned down £4million to make
Liverpool switch
Craig Bellamy turned down an extra £4million in potential
wages when he agreed to his dream move to Liverpool from
Blackburn Rovers.
The Welsh hitman - who scored on his Liverpool debut
yesterday - is still pinching himself following his summer
transfer and he's so happy to be at Anfield that he's
pledging to see out his career as a Red.
Talking about the move, Craig said: "If any other club but
Liverpool had come in for me maybe I would have fancied
myself to stay at Blackburn because I was very happy there.
"The contract they offered me was a really good one, and I
am on less than what I would have earned at Blackburn.
"Money wasn't the issue in me coming to Anfield, for me my
dreams are worth much more than money.
"I have come here to win trophies - that has always been the
expectation at Liverpool and that is what drives me as well.
"I want to win titles and Cups and I believe I have a great
chance to do that at Liverpool.

Liverpool are said to be lining up a move Real Madrid star

Rafa confirms Italian interest
Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has confirmed his liking for
Juventus striker David Trezeguet.
The French international striker is set to be one of a
plethora of Serie A stars who will quit the Italian game
following the recent match-fixing scandal.
Benitez has now thrown his hat into the ring and confirmed
that Trezeguet was a player he liked.
"Trezeguet is a good player, the question is what kind of
player do you need. We will look at what happens in Italy
and see what we can do," he told The People.
"All the Juventus players are good players - Trezeguet,
Zambrotta, a lot of them are good players for us and for
other clubs in the world.
"They will now be a better price than they would have been
three months ago."
Benitez admits that he would be more than happy to look at
temporary deals if need be.
"There maybe possibilities for a loan deal and for me that
is not a problem," Benitez added.
"If he is a good player and he is a professional, it's not a
problem for me."

Rafa explains Nando departure
Rafael Benitez believes Fernando Morientes will be a success
back in Spain at Valencia having failed to settle at
Liverpool.
The Reds manager felt Morientes never captured his true form
at Anfield and never quite came to terms with the pace and
physical aspect of the English game.
"When I signed Morientes it was because he scored goals, he
could hold the ball up and was good in the air and he had
the qualities we needed," explained Benitez.
"Unfortunately he never played at his level in England and
the move to Valencia is good for him."
