Bellamy boost for Reds
Liverpool striker Craig Bellamy could be back in time for the UEFA Champions League semi-final with Chelsea as his knee injury is not as serious as first feared.
Bellamy was stretchered off early on in Liverpool's 1-0 win over PSV Eindhoven
on Wednesday night.
Liverpool expected that Bellamy would need a scan to find out the full extent of the injury, but after further assessment from the club's medical staff they have decided he does not need any tests on the knee.
The Reds now hope that Bellamy's knee will respond to intensive treatment and that the Welshman will be back in ten days.
A club spokesman said: "Craig will have a couple of days' intensive treatment which should improve the situation."
Bellamy will definitely miss this weekend's Premiership clash with Manchester City and the home game with Middlesbrough next Wednesday.
However, if his knee responds to treatment he could be fit for the visit of Wigan on 22nd April and then the trip to Stamford Bridge three days later.

Rafa: No clear favourite for CL
Rafael Benitez feels any of the Champions League semi-finalists can win the trophy - and would not fear facing Manchester United in the final.
The Liverpool boss - already embroiled in a war of words with Chelsea counterpart Jose Mourinho - insists he has not been intimidated by Manchester United's sensational seven-goal performance against Roma.
And while many are seriously worried about the security and policing problems of having 80,000 Liverpool and Manchester United fans together in Athens for the final on May 23, Benitez would relish the challenge.
He said: "What I saw from United didn't surprise me, we know they have been playing really well in recent weeks.
"Then when they started scoring the goals it became harder for Roma, who maybe felt that it had become impossible very early on in the game.
"And if you lack confidence like that, and the other team are playing well, it is always more difficult to respond."

Alonso relishing semi-final clash with Chelsea

Xabi Alonso says Liverpool are braced for a Chelsea revenge mission in the Champions League semi-final, but is banking on the Anfield factor to play another major role in the latest epic between the clubs.
Jose Mourinho and his players have shown signs of mental scarring ever since Luis Garcia’s famous winning goal two years ago.
Mourinho said earlier this week ‘it’s the only time a crowd has scored a goal’.
Such withering comments are music to the ears of the Liverpool players, who believe The Kop will rise to the occasion yet again as the Reds seek a place in Athens.
“We know Chelsea very well because we’ll now have faced them three years in a row in semi-finals. We’ll be looking to repeat those results,” said Alonso, who starred in last night’s comfortable 4-0 aggregate win over PSV Eindhoven.
“They’ll be talking about revenge but at the moment we’re a confident team. They’ve done a good job to beat Valencia, but we both know it’s going to be very close again."

Gabri admits Liverpool liking
Ajax defender Gabri admits he would be keen to talk to Liverpool should Rafa Benitez make an approach over the summer.
The former Barcelona man has been linked with a move to Anfield when the transfer window opens as Benitez will have funds at his disposal following George Gillett and Tom Hicks' takeover at Anfield.
Gabri has only spent one season in Holland and was strongly linked with a possible move to the Premiership when his contract with Barca expired last summer.
"I'd like Ajax to study the option if it finally arrives from Liverpool," Gabri is quoted in
The Mirror.
"I'm very happy in Amsterdam but a club like Liverpool is attractive for any player.
"A Spanish club and some Spanish players would also be an influence."
However, Liverpool are yet to confirm their interest and have adequate resources at right-back having signed Alvaro Arbeloa to compete with Steve Finnan in January.

The first leg will still take place on Monday, April 16 at Anfield, at 7.45pm.

Mind games start ahead of Chelsea semi-final
Rafael Benitez last night cranked up the mind games with Jose Mourinho after his Liverpool side confirmed a Champions League semi-final rematch with Chelsea.
Attention immediately turned to the forthcoming all-Premiership clash against rivals Chelsea, with Liverpool having overcome the Londoners at the same stage of the competition on their way to lifting the trophy in 2005.
That victory was the start of a rapid deterioration in the relationship between Benitez and Mourinho, the Portuguese further upset when his team lost to Liverpool in the FA Cup semi-final last year and the Community Shield at the Millennium Stadium at the start of the current campaign.
And Benitez said: “We were good friends until we started beating them, then he changed his mind.
“Jose has a very good relationship with the managers that he beats but he is always fighting with the managers of all the top clubs."

Lampard: Liverpool revenge not our target
Chelsea's England midfielder Frank Lampard insists revenge will be the last thing on their minds when they meet Liverpool in the semi-final of the Champions League.
Lampard declared: "Revenge is a silly thing to take into games because then you are not concentrating as you should be. What happened before doesn't matter. All that matters is those two legs, winning and getting to the final.
"What matters is the history we make now. This season is about trying to win the Champions League and it will be the same for Liverpool - they won't be thinking about what happened two years ago - they will be thinking about now."

WEDNESDAY 11
Benitez expects Crouch goals
Rafa Benitez believes Peter Crouch will keep firing on all cylinders until the end of
the season.
The England striker scored the only goal of the game in Liverpool's UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg against PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday night, and Benitez feels his fine run of form can continue right through till the summer.
"I think that now he has the confidence that all strikers need when they start scoring goals," he told Sky Sports after the game.
"He can keep scoring goals until the end of the season."
Crouch himself also was also in confident mood after the game.
"I've been pleased with my form in the Champions League. It's a fantastic competition,"
he said.
"Hopefully I can keep that run going."

Reds ease past luckless PSV

Liverpool are through to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League following a 1-0 win and 4-0 aggregate success over 10-man PSV Eindhoven.
The damage was done in the first leg as The Reds cruised home 3-0 although
the Eredivisie giants were determined to avoid another thrashing and were solid prior
to losing a man.
PSV's resistance was finally broken when Peter Crouch netted just four minutes after debutant Dirk Marcellis was bizarrely dismissed for a slightly late challenge on
Boudewijn Zenden.
Liverpool now tackle Chelsea in what should be an intriguing re-match of their Champions League semi-final clash from 2005 when Luis Garcia's controversial strike decided
 the tie.

Sissoko will bounce back insists Benitez

Rafa Benitez today backed Momo Sissoko to emerge triumphant from the first dip of his career as Liverpool look to confirm another epic European semi-final with Chelsea tonight.
Sissoko heads into the second leg with PSV Eindhoven anxious to rediscover the midfield dominance which has made him such a pivotal part of Benitez’s side.
The arrival of Javier Mascherano has allowed Benitez to protect the young African since January, but it’s clear he’s suffered a loss of confidence in recent games.
Benitez believes Sissoko is being judged against the high standards he’s set himself, and critics of the player ought to consider the impact of his recent serious injuries, as well as the age of the midfielder before jumping on his back.
“People still don’t realise how young Momo is,” said Benitez about the 22-year-old, who missed last week’s first leg due to suspension.
“He’s moved to a big club in a new country and played really well for a long time, but he’s not an experienced player."

We’ll show PSV due respect
Caught between Barcelona and the Champions League semi-final, tonight’s visit of PSV Eindhoven is in danger of representing an insubstantial snack between a meaty starter and appetising main course.
Liverpool’s 3-0 win in Holland has inadvertently succeeded in transforming the exciting prospect of a European Cup quarter-final into a, potentially, low key affair.
The job is only half done, anything can happen in football and if PSV Eindhoven were t
o score an early goal, anxiety can sabotage what should be a comfortable evening.
Goalkeeper Pepe Reina, who was a spectator for most of the night in Holland, says it’s not just a question of being professional, but treating every opponent with the regard they deserve.
“We’ve already taken a big step forward, but we must also be very respectful of PSV Eindhoven because there’s still one more game to play,” he explained.
“People say it’s impossible to win 3-0 away from home in Champions League,
but we did it.
“If we are capable of winning 3-0 away, PSV Eindhoven are also capable of winning 3-0 at Anfield. This is the approach we must take and continue to work hard for the right result in the second leg."

Time to go all out on attack
Few could have anticipated how commanding a position Liverpool would be in approaching the second leg of a Champions League quarter-final.
The game is as good as over, but we have seen teams coming back before from
3-0 deficits!
However, I don’t rate PSV in the same class as Liverpool – and the big question is: How will the Reds play it?
For me, the solution is simple. Let’s put on a show for the fans and let’s see a three-pronged attack so that we can score and settle the issue quickly.
Rafa Benitez’s men are in a comfortable position. A couple of goals early on and
the players can really enjoy themselves.
I expect the boss to start with his strongest side and, once a lead is established, he can think about resting some of his key players.

TUESDAY 10

Reserves make it four out of five
Liverpool Reserves made it four wins out of five with a 2-0 win over Sheffield United at Saltergate in Chesterfield on Tuesday night.
Strikes from Jack Hobbs and trialist Reneil Sappleton clinched a well-earned victory against a strong United side which included former Toffees Paul Gerrard and Li Tie.
The win lifts Gary Ablett's men to fifth in the FA Premiership Reserves League Northern Division with two games to go.
Liverpool Reserves: Padelli, Darby, Insua, Huth, Hobbs (capt), Spearing, Anderson, Flynn, Lindfield (Sappleton 80), El Zhar, Threlfall (Brouwer 70).

Villa reveals Reds liking

Valencia striker David Villa has revealed he would be interested in a move to England if the opportunity arose, with Liverpool his favourite club.
The Spanish international has been continually linked with a move to the Premiership with Chelsea and Liverpool among his suitors.
Villa, who says he follows Liverpool because of his friendship with Reds keeper Jose Reina, admits he would consider an offer to play in England.
"I never planned to play in England, but if an offer arrives I'll take a look at it," Villa told Zoo magazine.
"I'm a great follower of football all around the world and I watch lots of games from the Premiership.
"I don't have a favourite English team, but because of my friendships with some of their players, I follow Liverpool most. My favourite player there is my friend Pepe Reina."
Valencia are determined to keep hold of their prized asset and they inserted a buy-out clause of £85million in his contract.
Villa has admitted himself that the price tag on his head is "ludicrous".
"It seems like a ludicrous amount of money! I believe it is too much money," added Villa.

Agger willing to learn from Anfield old hands

Liverpool defender Daniel Agger reveals he is being driven towards European glory by the incessant barrage from centre back partner Jamie Carragher.
The 22-year-old Denmark international has only been at Anfield for 14 months after a £5.8million transfer, but already he has all-but ousted one of Liverpool's modern-day heroes from the side.
He puts his elevation to first-team regular down to the constant words of advice barked in his ear from Carragher, and the fatherly advice coming from Finnish star Hyypia, now approaching 400 games for the club.
Agger said: "I know I have found myself in the first team a lot this season, and maybe people are surprised. But I would not have joined Liverpool if I did not think I could have achieved what I have done.
"There are great players here, two excellent centre backs in Sami and Carra, and I have learned so much from both of them.
"I just try to listen to everything they say to me, and to use their knowledge.
"And I know that if I have anything I want to ask, then I will get all the help they can
give me."

Liverpool without Kuyt for return leg
Team news: Liverpool will be without the suspended Dirk Kuyt for their Champions League quarter-final second leg at home to PSV Eindhoven tomorrow.
Mohamed Sissoko, banned for the first leg, returns to the squad while Xabi Alonso - who missed Saturday's win at Reading with a calf injury - returns to the squad.
Manager Rafael Benitez has the problem of whether to use Jermaine Pennant in this match, with the winger one booking away from being banned for a potential semi-final tie.
Provisional squad: Reina, Finnan, Arbeloa, Carragher, Hyypia, Agger, Riise, Pennant, Gerrard, Alonso, Sissoko, Mascherano, Gonzalez, Zenden, Bellamy, Crouch,
Fowler, Dudek.

Window box boys are really blooming
Rafa Benitez must be delighted with the contribution of his January signings.
It’s often said the mid-season transfer window is most difficult when trying to add quality to your squad, but Liverpool’s recent track record suggests otherwise.
Last year Benitez was cunning in his purchase of Daniel Agger and, of course, Robbie Fowler, and this season the arrival of Javier Mascherano and Alvaro Arbeloa has definitely pepped up his squad.

Papin backing under-fire Cisse
French legend Jean-Pierre Papin has urged Djibril Cisse's critics to be more patient, as speculation continues to grow that Marseille will decide against signing the striker in
the summer.
Cisse has been booed by l'OM fans in recent weeks and could only make Albert Emon's bench for the 4-1 victory over Lille at the weekend, with various reports stating that the French club will not pay the €12million (£8.2million) fee needed to make his stay permanent.
"Don't forget that this boy has suffered a six-month break twice over," Papin told L'Equipe.
"Normally, when you suffer such injuries you need one year to come back to peak form, but nobody says it.
"He lacks a little confidence - the last second, the last gesture, everything that makes a goalscorer - but he hasn't lost it.
"It is simple, he doesn't play with 100 per cent of his talent, maybe 70 per cent.
"People try to demolish him, that is unfair."

Benitez may rest big guns
Rafa Benitez is considering resting his big guns for tomorrow’s visit of PSV Eindhoven.
The Liverpool boss will assess his options after training this afternoon, but he may be tempted to hand more fringe players an opportunity to protect the 3-0 lead.
However, Benitez is also cautious about presuming the tie is over.
“I haven’t decided which team to use yet, but we do have options,” said Benitez.
“The best idea is to approach the game to win, and then maybe we can look at the situation at half-time and decide whether we can change it.
“I must talk to the players and be sure they realise they must still work hard. We can approach the game with confidence, but I also remember what happened in Istanbul."

Cocu: We're not here for a holiday
PSV captain Phillip Cocu insists the Dutch champions aren't coming to Merseyside for
a holiday.
The midfielder says he and his teammates want at the very least to restore their pride following a 3-0 first-leg defeat on home soil.
"We need more than a miracle to beat Liverpool and reach the semi-finals but we are not going to England just for a holiday," said Cocu.
"It is obvious that in Eindhoven they were the better side, but I thought the 3-0 scoreline was harsh. We had some chances to score but we didn't take them.
"We are not going to throw this game because we are playing for pride and we don't want it to be ridiculous.
"Any kind of win at Anfield would leave a good taste in our mouths, so we will try to score a goal and see what happens."
